Elements I Has Arrived!

BY Amy Takabori

This is the fifth and final part of our blog series leading up to the launch of Elements I, the newest addition to the Fast ForWord Literacy program for secondary readers. See Part 4 about the adolescent brain.

Today, we officially launch Elements I, our brand-new offering for secondary readers! All current customers will have access to the new component by Friday, August 7.

The First Reading Intervention Tailored to Needs of Adolescent Learners

With the release of the Elements I series of exercises, Fast ForWord Literacy now offers the first evidence-based reading intervention fully tailored to the needs of adolescent learners.

This reading intervention program can change the game for 66% of 8th graders and 63% of 12th graders who were reading below the NAEP proficiency level even before COVID-19 school closures.

Elements I delivers the rewards, instant feedback, and socially safe learning environment secondary students need to stay motivated and become college- and career-ready learners and readers.

Moreover, it's designed for both remote learning and classroom implementation, giving teachers the flexibility they need in fast-changing learning environments. For example, Elements I includes integrated assessment and actionable reporting tools for educators to easily monitor student progress and participation. With these tools, teachers can easily demonstrate progress on normed assessments to parents and administrators.

The Fast ForWord Literacy program is aligned with state standards and has proven effective in producing gains on standardized testing, including the ACT, CPT, and the MAP reading assessment.

What Can You Expect?

This new and improved replacement for the Literacy component includes the following enhancements:

  •  Fresh, engaging exercise designs provide the right blend of variety and predictability to maximize motivation for adolescent learners, while progress celebrations at consistent increments keep them involved.
  • A consistent “heads-up display” in each exercise provides students with real-time feedback during their Elements I sessions, including progress details, streaks and points, and easy access to self-help.
  • Integrated, immediate, corrective feedback helps adolescent learners stay motivated and progress more quickly. Students have more autonomy in getting themselves “unstuck” and back on track with automated interventions that provide just-in-time support.
  • Explicit instruction on language concepts, grammatical structures, and vocabulary, which is particularly helpful to English language learners and special education students.
  • Increased adaptivity creates a more personalized experience, enabling learners to fast-track through content they find easy and slow down when the content gets challenging. Greater gains can be achieved when each learner spends more time working in the zone that’s the correct level of difficulty for them.
  • Additional demo access points let teachers and students dig deeper when previewing tasks in an exercise.

The much-anticipated Elements I preview videos are now available. Watch them in an on-demand webinar that tours the exercises, or as samples on our website.
