After Fast ForWord participation, students made statistically significant gains on both the California Standards Test for English Language Arts and the California Standards Test for Mathematics. The percentage of students at or above the proficiency criterion in English Language Arts increased from 15% to 43%. The percentage of students at or above the proficiency criterion in Mathematics increased from 47% to 59%. Study participants also made statistically significant gains on the Reading Progress Indicator assessment – improving their reading skills by 1.2 grade levels, on average.
