Course Description: BJ Wilson will discuss his district's journey of implementing Fast ForWord district-wide for its students receiving special education services. Mr. Wilson will discuss the impetus for implementing Fast ForWord, share his district's first-year results and findings, and explain how and why he revised his district's implementation plan for the second year of using the program.

Course description: Dr. Martha Burns will summarize the latest neuroscience research on APD, reading and poverty. There's always something new - and a deeper understanding to be gained.nderstand what audiologists look for when assessing for Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), and whether there are certain characteristics that make a participant appropriate for Fast ForWord or not.

Course Description:   New research on the underlying neurology of autism is exploding. Join Dr. Martha Burns as she discusses the new research and shares information on using Fast ForWord with students with autism – detailing how those exercises have been shown to enhance language, attention, and social skills in children on the autism spectrum.

What's New in Neuroscience? Dyslexia Research & Remediation

Course Description:  Learn how the brain processes the written word and the language processes in the brain underlying reading. Marty also will discuss how reading changes the brain, the neurological characteristics of individuals with dyslexia and how Fast ForWord can help.

Using a Data-Driven Continuous Improvement Process to Develop the Next Generation of Fast ForWord

Course Description:  The proliferation of data has empowered educators with new insights into how students learn and how to affect future learning like never before. Dr. Lomas, founder of Playpower Labs, will discuss how his company is partnering with Scientific Learning to make the Next Generation exercises of Fast ForWord more effective, motivating, and engaging by using a Data-Driven Continuous Improvement Process, which ensures students are effectively challenged and motivated to produce fast, enduring learning gains, and which facilitates improvements to the program over time.

Fast ForWord Next Generation Preview

Course Description:  Over the past year, the Scientific Learning research, product management and engineering teams have been working on the "Next Generation" of the Fast ForWord program, assisted by outside consultants, including one of our co-founders, Dr. Bill Jenkins. While all development plans are subject to change, the current plan is to begin to release the first "Next Generation" program in Summer, 2018. Dr. Bill Jenkins and Joan Ferguson will provide background on the project and point out elements of the new programs that will add additional neuroscientific rigor, increase engagement for the student, and support more effective implementations by schools, clinics, and learning centers across the world.

From the Lab to the Classroom: The Brain, Auditory Processing, and Language

Course Description:  Dr. Paula Tallal will share the findings of her research on auditory processing and language learning difficulties that led to the development of the Fast ForWord program. Fast ForWord helps children learn to differentiate fast-changing sounds to make language learning—and consequently, reading—easier. Dr. Tallal is a co-founder of Scientific Learning and an Emeritus Professor at Rutgers University. Dr. Tallal is also a Senior Scientist, Center for Human Development, University of California, San Diego.

Tips for Student Achievement with Fast ForWord

Course Description:  Joel has many years of experience working with the Scientific Learning products so he has learned great strategies for helping students complete the products successfully. In this session he will share tip and tricks that will help your students get on track and keep going.

Dive Deep into Reports

Course Description:  In MySciLEARN, providers have access to a variety of detailed reports demonstrating students’ progress through the exercises and/or reading selections of each product. Gaining a better understanding of the detailed information available within specific reports is essential to helping students benefit the most from the Fast ForWord exercises. In this session, Tom Chapin will walk participants through key reports that provide important essentials to increasing student gains in the products and in school.

Provider “Ted Talks” on Fast ForWord Models: 20-Minute Overviews on Special Topics

Course Description:  Join expert providers for short presentations that cover which implementation model(s) they use most (virtual, onsite, & hybrid models), how they set-up their services, how to keep parents engaged, and the must-share tips & best practices for others to succeed!

Efficacy of Fast ForWord with Auditory Processing/Temporal Processing Disorder

Course Description:  This program will emphasize the behavioral manifestations of individuals with CAPD, and its impact on learning, reading, academic skills and emotional well-being. A new Questionnaire assessing the emotional/social impact of CAPD on adolescents will be highlighted with the emphasis on the need for intervention and its resultant impact on socialization skills for the adolescent. The data supporting the use of FFW for improvement of auditory and temporal processing skills will be presented along with case studies and parent testimonies. More data have been collected over the year attesting to FFW’s efficacy.
