A Principal's Guide to Blended Learning by Charles Wilson
What does a successful blended learning implementation look like?
The term "blended learning" is often misunderstood. What are the theoretical considerations when developing a blended learning program, and what does a successful blended learning program look like? This whitepaper provides a definition, examines common models and key issues, and ends with a detailed real-life example from the Oakland, CA, elementary school where Wilson is Principal.
Korematsu Discover Academy (KDA) was opened seven years ago as a response by the Oakland Unified School District to the required closure of another school which had been persistently failing to adequately educate its students. In the first year using blended learning at KDA, the school experienced the largest API gain for any elementary school in Alameda County, successfully exited federal Program Improvement status, and was one of only 35 schools in California nominated for the U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon status.
