Scientific Learning Corp. (NASDAQ: SCIL) will be featured on an upcoming segment of "The Balancing Act," a half-hour television series airing nationwide on the Lifetime television network. The Scientific Learning segment will discuss the concept of brain plasticity and demonstrate how the Fast ForWord(R) and Reading Assistant(TM) family of products can strengthen brain processing and literacy skills to increase reading proficiency in students of all ages. The segment will air Aug. 11 at 7 a.m. Eastern/Pacific time and 6 a.m. Central/Mountain time (check local listings).

Fast ForWord is a family of research-based educational software products that accelerate learning by developing the student brain to process more efficiently. Reading Assistant software combines advanced speech recognition technology with scientifically-based interventions to help students strengthen their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

During the morning talk show, Danielle Knox, host of "The Balancing Act," will interview Sherrelle Walker, chief education officer for Scientific Learning. Knox and Walker will open the segment with a brief discussion on brain plasticity, the brain's ability to change as it learns new skills. Walker will describe how Scientific Learning's products use patented technologies that leverage the science of brain plasticity to exercise students' brains and help them learn. The segment will also feature a video of Josie, a fifth grade student who participated in the Fast ForWord program at her school over the past year and achieved a reading gain of more than two years. Viewers will learn how students using the software achieve, on average, a one to two year reading gain in eight to 12 weeks.

"As parents and teachers know, learning to read is one of the most difficult challenges a student faces," said Robert C. Bowen, chairman and CEO of Scientific Learning. "We're excited to have the opportunity to show viewers across the country how our reading intervention products exercise students' brains to help them learn better, and encourage students to become proficient, lifelong readers."
