OAKLAND, CA - 04/18/2006 - Scientific Learning Corp. (NASDAQ: SCIL) has announced that Idaho's Pocatello/Chubbuck School District has been designated a National Reference Site. Pocatello/Chubbuck joins a select group of districts nationwide that exemplify the outstanding use of the company's computer-based Fast ForWord® family of reading-intervention products.
As a National Reference Site, the Pocatello/Chubbuck district will serve as a real-life resource for other school districts seeking advice on how to best utilize the Fast ForWord products to provide effective literacy support for their students. Thanks to its commitment to the use of the Fast ForWord products, Pocatello/Chubbuck will also provide a research base for new Scientific Learning products and services.
According to Sherrelle Walker, Scientific Learning's Chief Education Officer, Pocatello/Chubbuck was selected due to its excellent results using Fast ForWord, its commitment to increasing student achievement in reading and writing, and its high academic and technological standards. Its middle and high school students made significant gains using the Fast ForWord products; average student reading performance was at the 23rd percentile before Fast ForWord use and improved to the 30th percentile after Fast ForWord participation. The district will also participate in research studies, surveys, and focus groups to help Scientific Learning refine the Fast ForWord products.
