Oakland, Calif. — May 31, 2010 — Scientific Learning (NASDAQ:SCIL), creators of the Fast ForWord® family of products, has named School District 16 of Miramichi, New Brunswick as its first Canadian National Reference Site. School District 16 joins a distinguished group of districts across the United States that exemplify the outstanding use of Fast ForWord, a family of educational software products that accelerate learning by improving the processing efficiency of the brain.
As a National Reference Site, School District 16 will serve as a resource for other Canadian school districts seeking advice on how to best use the Fast ForWord program to build brain fitness and increase students’ reading proficiency. The district will also participate in research to help Scientific Learning enhance the effectiveness of its products and services.
According to Andy Myers, president and CEO of Scientific Learning, School District 16 was named as Canada’s first National Reference Site due to its continuing commitment to increasing student achievement in reading, exemplary implementation of the Fast ForWord program, and strong results. The district has been successfully using the Fast ForWord software since 2002. General education students and struggling learners work on the research-based software 50 minutes a day to help build the cognitive skills — memory, attention, processing rate and sequencing — essential for learning and reading success. In addition, all second grade students use the Fast ForWord program to help prepare for the second grade provincial reading exam.
“We have had great success for a number of years now with Fast ForWord in School District 16,” said Superintendent Lawrence Keoughan. “Test results have been impressive. Our district is extremely happy to have been selected as a National Reference Site for Scientific Learning. We know it will give our students the upper edge in developing their literacy skills. This endeavor is certain to be a remarkable success.”
