Austin, TX - April 13, 2010 - WeAreTeachers, the online social and business network that brings together teachers, learners, and content in the education industry announces the launch of a "Science of Success" brain research microgrant, sponsored by Scientific Learning Corp., makers of the Fast ForWord® and Reading AssistantTM family of products.

The new microgrant is designed to help educators enrich their classroom instruction by incorporating information and practices derived from research into how the brain learns. WeAreTeachers asks teachers to submit ideas on how they would integrate brain research findings to create optimal learning experiences.  The project ideas will then be placed in an online gallery for voting. The five projects that garner the most votes will receive $200 in cash and a Flip Video camera or iPod nano® with video to capture the implementation of their project idea.

The application period for the Scientific Learning microgrant will run from April 13-May 11. Projects will be available for voting from May 13-May 27. Winners will be announced May 31, 2010.

"Brain science and research is such a hot topic in education right now," said Sandy Fivecoat, CEO and founder of WeAreTeachers. "We are honored to team with Scientific Learning to help teachers experiment with this exciting new aspect of education."

"Scientific Learning is at the forefront of taking what neuroscience research tells us and applying it to products and programs that help the brain process more efficiently," said Dr. William Jenkins, co-founder and chief scientific officer at Scientific Learning. "But no matter how innovative, the technology still requires creative, dedicated teachers to incorporate it into their daily routines and harness its advantages.  We are thrilled to sponsor this microgrant to help teachers create more effective, engaging learning experiences for their students."
