Oakland, Calif. - Feb. 17, 2009 - At Picayune Junior High School in Mississippi, students who worked on Scientific Learning® (NASDAQ:SCIL) Fast ForWord® software made significant improvements, gaining an average of one year of reading ability after approximately two months of use. Fast ForWord is a family of educational software products that accelerate learning by developing the student brain to process more efficiently.

Picayune Junior High School (PJHS), part of the Picayune School District, began using the Fast ForWord reading intervention software in spring 2008. "We were looking at ways to improve our state test scores," said Superintendent Dean Shaw. "We selected the Fast ForWord program because it is based on brain research."

PJHS students worked with the Fast ForWord software 50 minutes per day, five days a week for six to 10 weeks. Results from Reading Progress Indicator, a computerized assessment designed to rapidly measure the impact of the Fast ForWord products, showed that students who completed at least one Fast ForWord product improved their reading grade level by an average of one year. Due to its success, the Picayune School District expanded its Fast ForWord software implementation to all schools in fall 2008.

"The results of the Fast ForWord program are quite impressive," said Shaw. "That's why we made the decision to implement it in all our schools."
