This is a regular full-time exempt position reporting to the Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Product Management.
Position Summary
The Director of Visual Design will be the creative leader for Scientific Learning's web-based product portfolio and marketing assets. We are looking for a concept-driven visual problem solver with expert design skills and a desire to define the next generation of online learning experiences. She/he is an exceptional designer who is well-rounded with extensive web experience. She/he is both hands-on and high-level, creating key design work as well as directing designers and production artists. She/he will be working closely with product owners to define creative requirements, present design deliverables and iterate to perfection with the product development teams. The proven ability to balance multiple projects successfully and collaborate across disciplines is critical in our cross-functional environment.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Define, develop and drive creative vision for online learning experience from prospect site visit through customer support post purchase.
- Develop and communicate engaging creative concepts while balancing business objectives.
- Translate consumer usability insights into actionable creative strategies and breakthrough concepts that drive business results
- Design compelling graphic elements, clear and visual hi-fidelity mock-ups, engaging interactive prototypes, and production quality graphics across multiple product lines
- Develop and maintain all creative web experiences for prospects, customers and end users
- Manage in house and outsourced web team
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in creative management, expert at developing both brand and digital creative including e-commerce, website/micro-site and interactive tools
- Ability to translate business and brand goals into innovative, meaningful and differentiated digital experiences
- Experience in usability testing, process diagrams, use case models, storyboards, site navigation, and site maps.
- Forward thinking in understanding the emerging tools, technology and business practices for the digital medium, and progressive in learning the application of these tools and practices
- Expertise in visual design, interaction design and animation
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flex, Dreamweaver, Fireworks)
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Programs
- Working knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS, ActionScript, JavaScript
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome)
- Experience managing teams
- Ability to be both hands-on and provide clear direction
- Rigorous attention to detail and personal organization
- Professional and graceful under pressure and tight deadlines
- Respectful and clear communicator
- Have a portfolio of beautifully designed work
- BA / MA, preferably in Graphic Design, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Communication Design, Fine Arts or related field
